A garage door is a large door that is opened manually by pulling or lifting, or by remote entry using a remote controlled garage door opener.
There are a wide variety of garage doors on the market, each with their pros and cons. Different materials are used for different kinds of areas for example along the coast people intend to use fibreglass doors instead of metal garage doors or even wooden garage doors.
Garage door prices are determined by the type of garage door you would like, or if installation space is limited you are sometimes forced to use a certain type of garage door that would only work in the given garage opening.
Meranti is widely used for wooden garage doors because of its good nailing and gluing properties. Meranti needs to be treated with varnish or oil based varnish at least once a year to ensure a long life of your wooden garage door.
Aluzinc is cold rolled galvanized steel with metal coating composed of Aluminium (55%), Zinc (43,4%) and Slicium (1,6%). Aluzinc is used for many other products that need to be corrosion resistance. Aluzinc is the most common used material for garage doors in Cape Town and garage doors in South Africa.
Fiberglass garage doors are mostly used around coastal areas because of the anti-corrosion properties of fibre glass.
Fibre glass doors is surely becoming a thing of the past because of the new Aluzinc material which makes supplying garage doors at a quicker rate possible and that it has brilliant corrosion resistance properties.
Aluminium garage doors are light weight and have similar advantages to Aluzinc doors. They also come in wood grain finishes. They are a little more expensive than metal garage doors and dent quite easily.
